Job Summary:
As a CNC Programmer Cum Setup Specialist, you will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, particularly Vertical Machining Centers (VMC), Horizontal Machining Centers (HMC), Turn Mills, and machinery utilizing Fanuc controllers. Your role involves translating engineering drawings, models, and specifications into efficient CNC programs, setting up machines with proper tooling and fixtures, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of manufactured parts.
Key Responsibilities:
- CNC Programming:
- Develop CNC programs using CAM software based on engineering drawings, models, and specifications.
- Optimize programs for efficient machining, including tool paths, speeds, and feeds.
- Ensure programs adhere to quality standards, safety protocols, and machine capabilities.
- Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up CNC machines including VMC, HMC, Turn Mill, ensuring proper alignment, tooling installation, and fixture setup.
- Conduct test runs to ensure program accuracy and make necessary adjustments.
- Operate machines during production runs, monitoring performance, and making adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
- Tooling and Fixture Management:
- Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, and fixtures based on job requirements.
- Maintain tooling inventory, perform tool changes, and inspect tool condition for wear and damage.
- Collaborate with the tooling department to optimize tool life and performance.
- Quality Assurance:
- Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues related to machining processes, tooling, or programming.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, setup sheets, and machine parameters.
- Generate reports on machine performance, productivity, and quality metrics.
- Communicate effectively with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to schedules.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a CNC Programmer and Setup Specialist, with proficiency in VMC, HMC, Turn Mill operations.
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages (G-code, M-code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM).
- Experience working with Fanuc controllers and familiarity with machine tool controls and parameters.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, geometric dimensions, and tolerances (GD&T).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining issues independently.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality machined parts.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
