Job Description: Educator – EVS/Science Primary & Middle Grade
Hamari Shala Program, Ashraya
Location: Pune
I. Position Overview
This is a full-time position. The EVS/Science Educator is expected to work closely with the Education Program Lead and be responsible for the daily running and management of their class. This includes lesson planning, celebrating learning through activities and festivals, documenting progress, and engaging with parents and community members.
The program aims to bridge academic gaps and facilitate holistic development. The educator is expected to contribute to an effective and joyful school culture, while motivating students and colleagues alike.
II. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for bridging learning gaps in EVS/Science (which may range from 2–4 years behind grade level) for primary and secondary students.
- Set clear goals for class learning outcomes and individual student success in EVS/Science.
- Use creative and interactive teaching strategies to develop students’ scientific understanding, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
- Prepare daily and long-term lesson plans based on the AIC HSP curriculum and learning goals.
- Deliver a full range of scientific topics appropriate to each student’s level (basic environmental concepts to secondary-level scientific principles).
- Make learning hands-on, engaging, and relevant to real life, including experiments, projects, and field observations.
- Monitor student attendance and inform leadership in case of long absenteeism.
- Work closely with AIC’s counsellors and remedial staff to support students needing additional academic or emotional support.
- Assign and assess classwork and homework, providing timely feedback.
- Foster strong classroom management and encourage productive learning habits.
- Supervise students throughout the school day, including during breaks.
- Conduct regular community/basti visits and maintain detailed student portfolios.
- Attend open days and parent-teacher meetings to communicate student progress.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through ongoing assessment and testing.
- Collaborate with families, administrators, and team members to support student growth.
- Support and help organize student events, science-based activities, projects, camps, and excursions.
- Complete bi-annual academic reports and submit creative work samples in a timely manner.
- Actively contribute to the organization’s wider initiatives and programs.
III. Desired Candidate Profile
- Full fluency in English and Hindi – written and oral (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or related field (B.Ed. and Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching EVS/Science, preferably in under-resourced settings
- Prior experience working in a non-profit or alternative education setting preferred
- Computer literacy and the ability to use digital tools for teaching
- Innovative, student-centered teaching approach with experience in experiential and project-based learning
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills
