Operating ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images and videos of organs, tissues, blood vessels, and fetal structures.
- Explaining procedures to patients, obtaining consent, and preparing them for scans by answering questions and ensuring comfort and safety during the examination.
- Analyzing images in real time to identify normal and pathological (disease-related) findings across specialties like obstetrics, gynecology, cardiology, and vascular systems.
- Interpreting results independently and preparing detailed written reports for referring physicians, unlike a sonographer who typically presents findings to a supervising physician for official interpretation.
- Collaborating with healthcare teams to plan further patient management, including participating in multidisciplinary meetings or confirming the need for additional tests.
- Maintaining accurate patient records and documenting imaging findings, history, and clinical recommendations.
- Supervising sonographers or ultrasound technicians, especially in larger clinical settings, to ensure quality and compliance with protocols.
- In settings where allowed, prescribing medications, ordering follow-up tests, or issuing medical certificates based on imaging and clinical findings
