To support science teachers and students by preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, materials, and a safe learning environment. The Science Lab Assistant plays a key role in ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly and safely.
1. Laboratory Preparation and Maintenance
- Prepare and set up equipment, materials, and chemicals for science experiments and practical lessons (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
- Clear away and clean equipment after use.
- Ensure that all apparatus is in good working condition.
2. Health and Safety
- Follow and enforce health and safety procedures and COSHH regulations.
- Store chemicals and hazardous materials safely.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the lab area.
- Report any safety concerns or broken equipment immediately.
3. Stock and Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels of laboratory materials and chemicals.
- Order supplies as required in consultation with the science department.
- Keep accurate records of inventory and usage.
4. Support for Teachers and Students
- Assist teachers during practical sessions when needed.
- Provide guidance to students on the correct use of laboratory equipment.
- Set up demonstrations and displays to enhance teaching.
5. Administrative Tasks
- Maintain accurate records for experiments, chemical usage, and safety checks.
- Assist in creating lab schedules and documentation related to experiments or risk assessments.
