The OT In-Charge is responsible for overall management, supervision, and smooth functioning of all activities in the Operation Theatre. The role ensures adherence to clinical protocols, infection control standards, and effective utilization of resources while leading the OT team to provide safe surgical care.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Oversee daily functioning of all operation theatres.
- Prepare OT schedules in coordination with surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff.
- Ensure timely availability of instruments, equipment, and consumables for surgeries.
- Maintain emergency readiness of OT at all times.
- Staff Supervision & Coordination
- Supervise and allocate duties to OT staff (nurses, technicians, attendants).
- Monitor staff punctuality, discipline, and performance.
- Train and guide team members on protocols and new techniques.
- Clinical & Safety Protocols
- Ensure strict compliance with infection control practices and sterilization protocols.
- Monitor and implement WHO surgical safety checklist.
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, and consent before procedures.
- Inventory & Equipment Management
- Maintain stock of drugs, surgical supplies, and linen.
- Coordinate with biomedical and maintenance teams for OT equipment upkeep.
- Report breakdowns or shortages immediately and ensure quick resolution.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain OT registers, records of cases, and usage of consumables.
- Submit daily/weekly/monthly reports to management.
- Ensure incident reporting and corrective measures for any OT-related issues.
- Quality & Patient Care
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during pre-op, intra-op, and post-op phases.
- Implement NABH or other quality standards applicable to hospital.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement programs, and accreditation processes.
