Qualifications & Training: Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (COC) – Class I
Age : Between 30 – 35 years
Experience: Seagoing: 1-year experience as a master Mariner on seagoing Chemical Tankers or Oil Tankers is a must.
Ashore: At least 02 - 05 years shore experience as a Marine Superintendent handling Chemical Tankers or Oil Tankers.
Job Purpose: The Marine Superintendent plays a crucial role in overseeing the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of Company’s tanker vessels. This position requires a deep understanding of post-fixture operations, compliance with international regulations, vetting inspections, vessel performance monitoring, and business development. The Marine Superintendent acts as the key liaison between vessel masters, technical managers, charterers, agents, and regulatory bodies, ensuring seamless vessel operations while maintaining the highest levels of safety and environmental standards.
Duties and Responsibilities/ Accountabilities :
1. Post-Fixture Operations & Commercial Management: · Manage post-fixture operations of tanker vessels under time and voyage charters. · Interpret and implement respective charter party clauses, including rider clauses. · Ensure timely and accurate submission of invoices, including Charter hire invoices, Freight invoices, Bunker reimbursement invoices, Demurrage claims. · Counter charter hire or demurrage claims from charterers and actively follow up on receivables.
2. Vessel Performance monitoring & Operational Oversight: · Monitor daily vessel operations, including off-hire periods, breakdowns, spares, bunkers, lubes, and crewing. · Coordinate bunker planning in collaboration with the bunkering desk. · Investigate operational issues, analyze off-hire trends, and implement corrective measures to minimize claims from charterers. · Supervise technical managers to ensure adherence to budgeted operating expenses and implement cost-control measures. · Ensure vessels comply with regulatory, company, and industry standards for safe and efficient operations.
3. Vetting & Compliance Inspections: · Oversee vessel vetting, including: o Preparing vessels for inspections and attending SIRE vetting o Reviewing and addressing vetting observations and submitting operator responses · Conduct internal audits to verify vessel compliance with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS). · Assist in improving the company’s Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) rating and SIRE 2.0 performance.
4. Insurance & Risk Management: · Ensure vessels are adequately insured, including Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Hull & Machinery, and Third-Party Liability coverage. · Liaise with P&I clubs to handle Letters of Indemnity (LOIs), Letters of Undertaking (LOUs), and third-party claims. · Coordinate with underwriters for vessel entry into P&I and H&M cover.
5. Port & Terminal Liaison: · Obtain vessel clearance from terminals and charterers, addressing any issues proactively. · Facilitate seamless coordination between vessel masters, cargo receivers, port officials, and local agency offices to ensure quick turnaround at Indian ports. · Approve Port Disbursement Accounts (PDA) and Final Disbursement Accounts (FDA) for agent payments.
6. Technical Management & Inspections: · Conduct regular inspections of fleet vessels to ensure regulatory, safety, and operational compliance. · Inspect prospective vessels for purchase and submit detailed reports on their condition. · Assist in negotiation and formalization of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) terms for vessel acquisitions. · Ensure smooth class and flag registration procedures during vessel acquisition. · Coordinate with Technical department for planning, preparation, and execution of major repairs / dry-docking to ensure timely and cost-effective completion. · Coordinate with Technical department for planning, preparation, and execution of SIRE / Internal inspections.
7. Crew Management – Selection, Performance and Coordination: · Interview and select qualified Masters and Chief Officers for vessels under management. · Ensure crew training and competence align with company and industry standards. · Monitor and support vessel crew in achieving technical and safety objectives. · Review crew performance and provide guidance, training, and support for improvement. · Foster teamwork and ensure effective communication between the office and ship staff.
8. Business Development & Vendor Management: · Identify new business opportunities, including vessel takeovers and expansion into the Indian market. · Establish and maintain strong relationships with charterers, brokers, suppliers, shipyards, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Knowledge: Ø Strong understanding of tanker operations, charter party agreements, and maritime regulations.
Ø Familiarity with SIRE inspections, TMSA, P&I insurance, and vessel vetting processes.
Skills: Ø Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ø Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Ø Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Ø Sound commercial acumen with a focus on cost control and revenue optimization.
Ø Proficiency in ship management software and Microsoft Office.

Ø Should have Excellent teamwork, management skills and leadership qualities.
