Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Japanese-to-English translator with proven experience in anime and manga translation. The ideal candidate understands not only the language but also the culture, slang, and narrative nuances that define Japanese pop culture. This role involves accurately translating scripts and text while preserving the tone, humor, and style of the original content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate Japanese manga, anime scripts, subtitles, and promotional materials into English with high cultural and linguistic accuracy.
- Localize content to resonate with English-speaking audiences while maintaining the original voice and intent.
- Collaborate with editors, to ensure the final product is consistent and polished.
- Research character references, cultural idioms, and context-specific terms to ensure faithful yet engaging translations.
- Meet deadlines for translation and revisions across multiple ongoing projects.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anime/manga trends, terminology, and fan expectations.
Qualifications:
- Fluent in Japanese and English
- Minimum 2 years of experience translating anime or manga content.
- Deep familiarity with Japanese pop culture, anime tropes, and manga genres.
- Ability to balance literal translation and creative localization.
- Strong attention to detail and consistency.
- A portfolio of past translated manga, anime subtitles, or equivalent work is required.
