We are seeking highly motivated MTech/MSc students with a background in environmental science, ecology, geoinformatics, or related fields to assist in biodiversity data processing and geospatial analysis for the Bengaluru region. The work supports a larger initiative on Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) and climate-resilient urban planning in Bengaluru.
Responsibilities
- Categorise data into major biodiversity classes (e.g. birds, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and plants) and further assign indicator taxa to relevant blue-green (BG) infrastructure subclasses (e.g. parks, lakes, wetlands, and urban forests).
- Identify native and non-native species and conduct statistical analysis
- Use GIS tools to visualise biodiversity patterns across Bengaluru.
- Provide support for conducting ground surveys on biodiversity indicators.
- Document methodology, metadata, and preliminary findings in a structured format.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Master’s programme in Ecology, Environmental Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related discipline.
Skill Set
Demonstrated interest in biodiversity, species identification, and spatial data analysis
Familiarity with ecological and taxonomic datasets
Experience or coursework in GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) and statistical software (R, Stata) preferred
Proficiency in R or Python for data cleaning and statistical analysis
Skilled in Excel for data sorting and tabular analysis
Strong attention to detail and experience working with large datasets
Effective communication skills and ability to document analytical workflows
