- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (minimum).
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field (preferred in clinical settings).
- Certification & Licensure:
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Endorsements for specific disability categories (e.g., Autism, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities) may be required.
- CPR/First Aid certification ( required in clinical environments).
- Experience:
- Experience working with children with disabilities, especially those with severe or complex needs.
- Prior experience in therapeutic, medical, or clinical environments is highly valued.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of IEP (Individualized Education Plan) processes.
- Familiarity with behavior management strategies (e.g., ABA, PBIS).
- Collaboration skills for working with therapists, psychologists, and medical staff.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Instructional Support:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction based on each student’s IEP goals.
- Modify curriculum to suit cognitive, behavioral, and emotional needs.
- Utilize therapeutic techniques to support learning and emotional regulation.
- IEP Development & Implementation:
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Develop and update IEPs in compliance with legal and clinical standards.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Work closely with clinical professionals (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers).
- Communicate regularly with families, medical personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Behavioral and Emotional Support:
- Implement behavioral intervention plans.
- Use de-escalation techniques and trauma-sensitive approaches.
- Foster a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state special education laws (IDEA, ADA, HIPAA).
- Contribute to discharge planning and transition services when applicable.
- Professional Development:
- Attend regular training in crisis intervention, behavior management, and new instructional strategies.
- Stay informed about advancements in special education and therapeutic practices.
