Job Overview:
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive Project Officer to support the planning, coordination, and field execution of a community-based road safety project in select rural-urban transition areas of Chennai. The coordinator will be the key link between United Way Mumbai, field trainers, stakeholders, government departments, and vendors, ensuring timely and quality implementation of the project activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and map relevant local stakeholders including traffic police, RTOs, panchayat leaders, school authorities, PHCs, etc.
- Schedule and coordinate stakeholder meetings, consultations, and awareness events
- Assist in drafting and submitting official letters and permission requests
- Assist in the recruitment and on boarding of trainers and field facilitators
- Coordinate their induction, logistics, and deployment in intervention areas
- Coordinate road safety audits in collaboration with technical experts
- Identify blackspots and hazardous junctions with inputs from field and stakeholders
- Facilitate vendor identification and implementation of physical interventions like signboards, mirrors, barricades, road markings, etc
- Identify local vendors for procurement and installations.
- Ensure timely delivery, quality checks, and documentation of procured materials (helmets, tapes, IEC materials).
- Organize and support community training sessions targeting youth, women, panchayat members, and other road users.
- Oversee the distribution of helmets, reflective items, and awareness materials.
- Support in translation, printing, and display of training/IEC content in local languages.
- Maintain attendance and activity records for trainings, meetings, and distributions.
- Share regular field reports, photos, and updates with the project team.
- Escalate any issues, delays, or challenges proactively.
Profile Requisites:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Public Policy, or related field. Master’s preferred.
- 5–7 years of experience in community-based project implementation.
- Prior experience in working with government departments and local authorities is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with road safety or public health projects will be an advantage.
- Fluency in Tamil and working knowledge of English is essential.
- Strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel regularly to rural field sites.
Remuneration: Subject to relevant qualification, experience & merit; the consultancy fees range is 30000 to 40000 per month.
