- Monitoring Patients:Continuously observe and record vital signs, fetal heart rate, and contraction patterns.
- Assisting with Delivery:Support doctors and midwives during normal and complicated deliveries, including emergency cesarean sections.
- Administering Medications:Provide prescribed medications for pain relief and other necessary treatments.
- Pain Management:Assist with various pain management techniques, including coaching and comfort measures.
- Education and Support:Educate patients and their families about the labor process, pain management, and postpartum care.
- Postpartum Care:Provide initial care to the newborn and support the mother during the immediate postpartum period.
- Maintaining Records:Document all observations, interventions, and medications administered.
- Ensuring a Safe Environment:Maintain a sterile and safe environment in the labor room, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
- Emergency Response:Be prepared to handle emergencies and complications that may arise during labor and delivery.
- Collaboration:Work collaboratively with doctors, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.
Additional Roles:
- Labor Room In-Charge:In some cases, a senior nurse may be responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the labor room, including staffing, inventory, and quality assurance.
- Education and Training:Labor room staff may also be involved in training new nurses, students, and other healthcare professionals.
