A Supervisor in the Metering Department is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all activities related to installation, maintenance, testing, replacement, and monitoring of electricity meters. The role ensures smooth field operations, compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and achievement of departmental targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Management & Supervision
- Lead, guide, and monitor field staff (linemen, helpers, technicians, contractors).
- Allocate daily work schedules and ensure timely completion.
- Conduct on-site supervision of meter replacement, testing, and sealing activities.
- Metering Operations
- Ensure proper installation, removal, shifting, and inspection of Electronics meters / conventional meters.
- Verify meter readings, accuracy, and data integrity.
- Monitor performance of AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) systems.
- Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with CEA regulations, DISCOM policies, and Tata Power SOPs.
- Check that safety protocols (electrical safety, PPE usage, work at height, etc.) are followed by the team.
- Conduct quality checks on installed meters, wiring, and connections.
- Customer & Field Coordination
- Interact with customers for meter-related complaints (billing disputes, faulty meters, wrong readings).
- Coordinate with other Tata Power departments (billing, operations, IT, etc.) for resolution.
- Handle escalations and resolve on-ground issues.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain records of installed/replaced meters, meter test results, and consumer details.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
- Update data in company software/ERP system.
- Training & Safety
- Train field manpower in safe working practices and new metering technology.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure adherence to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) guidelines.
Skills & Qualifications Required
- Diploma Electrical Engineering (preferred) or ITI with experience.
- Strong knowledge of LT/HT distribution systems, smart meters, and metering standards.
- Leadership, problem-solving, and team-handling skills.
