JOB DESCRIPTION

The following description of duties is intended to outline the essential responsibilities of the person in this position.

· The infection control nurse is responsible for the training of new staff in infection control principles and the yearly in servicing of current employees, monitoring compliance with infection control policies and practices.

· She is also responsible for keeping records of trends in resident illnesses.

· The ICN will act as a resource person to staff around specific infection control issues concerning specific patients or groups of patients.

· The ICN will be responsible for reviewing and updating infection control policies in conjunction with the Infection Control Task Force.

· The ICN will identify need areas for education of staff and work with Staff Development Coordinator to implement in servicing.

· The ICN will track types of infections through surveillance systems and report information to the infection control officer.

· Monitor findings from patient care quality / safety assessment activities, including recognition of sentinel events and marker organisms for immediate review and investigation.

· Assess healthcare personnel / environment for compliance with infection control policies and procedures by conducting infection control and interdepartmental rounds, evaluation and review of medical equipment and supplies, including cleaning, sterilization and disinfection techniques throughout the facility.

· Perform Infection Control Risk Assessments and monitor all construction and demolition projects throughout the facility to assure compliance with standards.

· Participate in facility-wide Emergency Preparedness activities related to infection control measures relating to communicable disease outbreaks.

· Serve as key educator to staff regarding infection control policies and procedures and is a facilitator in addressing and correcting identified problem within the system, sites and units.

· Responsible for developing and maintaining an effective, system-wide infection control program within client facilities. Monitors and evaluates prevalence of healthcare associated infections. Supports teamwork essential for compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards through surveillance, effective prevention and control activities specific to a variety of practice settings, and accurate report.

· Assists in developing and implementing program initiative, policies and education related to infection prevention for associates and patients.

Personnel Responsibilities

1. Assisting with the orientation of new staff.

3. Participating in teaching programmes for staff.

Administrative Responsibilities

1. Ensuring the maintenance of good relationships, communications and teamwork with all disciplines within the department and other departments of the hospital concerned with Department work.

2. Planning duty roster for concern department.

3. Indenting as per the authorised list.

Self-preparation

1. 2. Maintaining a comfortable environment.

2. Ensure aseptic technique in performing procedures.

3. Completing documentation.

Health and Safety at Work

1. Ensure safety for patients and colleagues.

2. Be totally aware of emergency fire drills

4. Maintain safe working conditions at all times.

5. Report mishaps, accidents and complaints immediately in accordance with Hospital policies.

Confidentiality

Staff members have a legal duty of confidence to patients. Any employee disclosing confidential/ patient records or information to any unauthorized person or persons will render the employee subject to disciplinary action, which may result in dismissal.

Pay: ₹8,086.00 - ₹54,755.63 per month
