Optical Fiber splicer installs, tests, maintains, and repairs fiber optic and networks for internet services. Their duties include performing preventive maintenance, managing faults, handling fiber splicing, installing hardware like router, providing customer service, and troubleshooting technical issues in both residential and commercial environments. Key Responsibilities
- Installation & Setup Installingnew fiber optic and equipment in homes and businesses, including connecting and setting up devices like router,ONU,OTDR
- Maintenance & Repair: Performing routine maintenance to ensure network uptime, conducting fault management and repairs, and replacing faulty or old cables.
- Fiber Splicing: Joining individual optical fibers together, a critical skill for maintaining the integrity and signal quality of the network.
- Testing & Troubleshooting: Utilizing specialized tools to test the network for performance and identify issues, ensuring the system meets customer needs and operates correctly.
- Customer Service: Providing technical assistance and support to customers, helping them establish services and resolve technical problems.
Work Environment
- Field-Based: Technicians spend a significant amount of time working outdoors and inside various buildings, which can sometimes involve difficult terrain or hard-to-reach places.
- Physical Demands: The job requires regular physical activity, including bending, reaching, and lifting, to install and maintain cabling.
