Job Summary
Technical operations
1. Blood collection & donor handling:
Perform phlebotomy using sterile techniques and donor-friendly approach
Screen donors in accordance with Drugs and Cosmetics Act and NACO guidelines
Manage donor reactions or emergencies during collection
2. Component preparation & apheresis:
Conduct component separation (RBC, Platelets, FFP, Cryoprecipitate)
Operate apheresis machines for single donor platelet collection and therapeutic procedures
Maintain aseptic conditions and calibrate equipment as required
3. Testing & quality control:
Perform mandatory serological and NAT testing of collected units
Ensure equipment validation, reagent control, and internal quality checks
Support NABH/ NABL documentation and audits
4. Blood issue & distribution:
Cross match and issue blood/blood components to wards, OTs and other healthcare facilities
Maintain cold chain protocols and temperature logs for storage and transportation
B. Compliance
1. Complete all documentation as per SOPs and regulatory requirements
2. Maintain donor and inventory records using hospital LIS/Blood Bank Management Software
3. Participate in external/internal audits and regulatory inspections
4. Ensure adherence to Biomedical Waste Management and Infection Control guidelines C. Community engagement & promotion
1. Assist in planning and organizing blood donation camps in collaboration with the Hospital Marketing/CSR team
2. Educate the public on voluntary blood donation, donor eligibility, and safety
3. Coordinate with NGOs, colleges, corporate for blood camp mobilisation
Experience required:
Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in a licensed blood centre
At least 1 year of hands-on experience and training in:
Blood Component Separation
Apheresis Techniques and Procedures
