Job summary:
As an APAC Technology & Intellectual Property Legal Associate Counsel within the APAC team, you will concentrate on technology transactional work primarily for wholesale businesses and corporate functions. You will be responsible for structuring, drafting, negotiating, and analyzing agreements for acquiring global and domestic technology products and services in the APAC region. In addition, this role will support regulatory and advisory work across APAC with respect to outsourcing, offshoring, inter-affiliate services, and other technology-related matters.
Job responsibilities:
- Review, interpret and negotiate agreements with suppliers, advising clients and partners on rights and responsibilities related to those agreements, including compliance with JPMorgan Chase policies and regulatory requirements;
- Manage end-to-end negotiations, and navigate internal processes and coordination between the business, Legal, and other subject matter experts to reach timely and successful execution of agreements;
- Interpret contractual requirements based on information provided by internal business partners;
- Negotiate standard and customized contracts in order to minimize the risk to the business through principled adherence to firm policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements;
- Analyze legacy legal documents for conformance to the firm’s current policies, procedures and regulatory requirements;
- Provide guidance and subject matter expertise on documentation to internal business and functional partners;
- Serve as trusted advisor to internal clients and business partners;
- Help develop and enhance legal knowledge management training materials and procedures;
- Provide legal research on technology, outsourcing and contractual issues, as needed;
- Help drive the Legal Department’s strategic agenda and actively participate in the Legal Department’s people initiatives.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Qualified lawyer with minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience;
- Experience in negotiating contracts with suppliers and third party service providers;
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property, outsourcing, offshoring, software licensing, privacy and related regulatory and risks environments;
- Strong analytic skills and ability to distill large bodies of information into key messages for business stakeholders
- Ability to effectively partner with all levels across a diverse set of functions, locations and business
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Outstanding problem-solving capabilities – ability to analyze novel scenarios with limited precedent, perform self-guided research and offer creative and practical solutions to complex business challenges
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills:
- Prior experience in advising supply agreements will be an advantage.
- Candidate should ideally have trained at and previously worked for a multinational law firm with post-qualification experience in the commercial, technology, media and telecommunications or equivalent practice;
- Good understanding and familiarity with current legal and regulatory requirements relating to some or all of technology risk, outsourcing, offshoring, intellectual property, and related legal and regulatory environments desirable.
- Excellent academic credentials preferred.
